About this video
What Allied Weapons Did German Troops Take in WW2?
Well Germany had a few fan favourites.
From the Soviets, the greatest prize was the PPSh-41. It had an insane fire rate for WW2 at around 1250 rounds per minute, was very robust, reliable and could take a 71 round drum magazine.
In fact the Germans liked it so much, Berlin created a whole program to convert the weapon to fire 9mm, replacing the barrels and magazine adapters to be able to take MP40 magazines.
But they also liked a fair frew American weapons. The Thompson was a particular favourite as the .45 acp ammo had a lot more stopping power than the likes of the MP40, often being given to the likes of German paratroopers or Waffen SS units.
German troops also liked the M1 Carbine as it was a lot lighter than the standard issue Kar 98k whilst having a much higher fire rate being semi auto. In a similar vain the m1911 was a popular choice as most german troops didnβt have sidearms and the ones that did predominantly only had 9mm pistols that lacked the stopping power of the 1911βs .45acp.
Lastly, the Germans captured a lot of Lee Enfields, primarily the SMLE No.4 MKI from the British being designated teh Gewehr 281(e) in German Service as well as the Bren LMG which was slower firing than the likes of the MG42 but was much easier to reload as it was magazine fed.
