Workers' Day 2026 | AMCU renews calls to move Workers' Day to 16 August

As the nation commemorates Workers' Day, the Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union (AMCU) is turning the spotlight back to the site of the 2012 Marikana massacre, using the public holiday to renew its calls for it to be moved to August 16th.

AMCU President Joseph Mathunjwa, is set to host commemorations near the infamous koppie in the North West, where 34 striking miners were killed by police during an unprotected wage strike.
