Rhea Siers, Center for Cyber and Homeland Security
Moderator: Col. Michael Clark, U.S. Air Force
The sixth annual Women, Peace and Security (WPS) Conference held by U.S. Naval War College (NWC) and Taubman Center for American Politics and Policy brought together leaders from academia, military and non-governmental organizations to discuss the links between the security of women and the security of states. This yearβs theme, "Promoting Global Leadership," focused on current events and historical commentary within the context of the four pillars of U.N. Resolution 1325: participation, conflict prevention, protection and relief and recovery.
Since the inception of the U.S. National Action Plan on WPS in 2011, NWC has been at the forefront of exploration into national and international issues involving WPS, working toward the goal of empowering women in conflict prevention and peace. Established in 2012, the conference continues to grow in perspective and scope to include ideas from each sister service and every global continent. It is the only U.S. military academic program specifically related to the topic.
