The two firms agreed to form the firm's Charleston, SC office.<br />Buist Moore Smythe McGee P.A. was established on November 16, 1970 with the merger of two of Charleston's oldest law firms - Buist, Buist, Smythe & Smythe and Moore, Mouzon & McGee. The firm of Buist, Buist, Smythe & Smythe had been one of the oldest continuing law firms in the country. It was founded in 1827 by Richard Yeadon and Charles McBeth, later Mayor of Charleston. McBeth subsequently formed a partnership with Henry Buist under the name of McBeth and Buist and, shortly after the Civil War; the firm became Buist and Buist. The firm of Smythe and Smythe was successor to Smythe, Lee and Frost, and to a law practice, which was founded in 1866 by Augustine T. Smythe, grandfather of two of our founding partners. That firm merged with Buist and Buist in 1962.
