About this video
Imagine being tracked by Wi‑Fi—no camera, no phone, no wearable needed.
Researchers at La Sapienza University in Rome have created WhoFi, a system that uses Channel State Information (CSI)—tiny distortions in 2.4 GHz Wi‑Fi signals—to create a unique biometric signature for each person. These waveforms are analyzed by a Transformer-based neural network, achieving re-identification with up to 95.5% accuracy, even through walls or in darkness.
It raises major privacy concerns—because your body alone can be traced across Wi‑Fi zones—without your awareness or consent. The technology is still experimental, with limited trials on just 14 subjects—no real-world deployment yet.
Works even if you change clothes, add a backpack, or walk between rooms
Needs only a basic router and receiver—no fancy hardware required
This tech could completely change surveillance—and questions how much of our presence is invisible yet traceable.
What do you think—privacy innovation or overreach? Let me know below. 👇
