Verdigris Effect Tutorial
Looking to add a grimdark worn weathered finish to your miniatures?
This beginner-friendly tutorial shows you how to create a simple verdigris effect. This is perfect for adding a grim dark look to your Warhammer 40k, Age of Sigmar, Trench Crusade, or even your DnD miniatures.
This technique works especially well on: Trim for Emperor’s Children, Skaven, or Chaos units. Larger surfaces like terrain, tanks, or armored plating. Any model that could use a little grimy, grimdark edge.
Here's the recipe:
1. Start with a deep blue-green base.
2. Thin down verdigris or mint green paint and build up highlights.
3. Drybrush a dark bronze like Citadel’s Warplock Bronze.
Finish with a focused drybrush using reddish gold, like Balthasar Gold.
This method is brand-flexible—use whatever paints you're comfortable with. (Army Painter Paints, Citadel Paints, Vallejo Paints, Monument Hobbies Paints, AK Interactive Paints, Scale 75 Paints, and many more).
