About this video
If you’re the type of person who just clicks next, next, I agree when having to read a Terms of Service document, you should probably start paying more attention.

These policies are filled with tricky language regarding your data and how it’s handled, and if you don’t read the fine print, you might be unknowingly agreeing to something you’d never allow to happen in the first place.

One of the most absurd Terms of Service instances happened several years ago when six people in London signed up to use free Wi-Fi and agreed to give up their first-born child. Luckily, this was all for the sake of experiment by the company and no first-born children were lost in the process.

To get you to better understand the agreements for your tech products, some services do exist to make it easier like Terms of Service; Didn’t Read. The browser extension helps summarize the bad and the good parts of many popular web agreements.
TLDR Legal (Which stands for Too Long Didn’t Read) is also available and gives summaries on some of the most popular legal agreements.

And if short, digestible versions of the terms don’t exist, you can manually search for keywords that can be concerning. Just press control + F on your keyboard and search for terms like “control,” “not,” and “such as.”

This video, "Why Reading the Terms Of Service Matters", first appeared on
nowthisnews.com.
