Why China Wants the South China Sea

China’s interest in the South China Sea stems from a combination of strategic, economic, and geopolitical factors that underscore the region’s critical importance on both regional and global scales. China’s construction of artificial islands, installation of military facilities, and deployment of advanced defense systems are all part of a broader strategy to establish a strong foothold that can disrupt potential military threats and assert sovereignty claims.
