Vijayadashami or Dussehra festival is celebrated throughout India.

It marks the culmination of the Navratri festival or Durga Pooja, celebrated during the Ashvin month (September-October).

On Vijayadashami day, the clay idols of Goddesses Durga, Lakshmi and Saraswati, and Lord Ganesha, and Lord Kartikeya are taken in processions to the water bodies and immersed.

Navratri is a festival that honors the Divine Mother. On Vijayadashami, Goddess Durga slayed the demon, Mahishasura.

Thus the festival celebrates the triumph of good over evil.

It also represents victory over the negative elements within us.
