Dwalin's Wild Moments on Set During The Hobbit 🎬

In The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, during the scene where the Dwarves are imprisoned by the Elves, director Peter Jackson gave the actors freedom to improvise their solo shots, allowing them to act as they thought their characters would. Graham McTavish, who portrayed Dwalin, took full advantage of this, making his character as wild as possible. Peter Jackson encouraged him to think about what Dwalin would do in such a situation. McTavish decided Dwalin would go crazy, trashing the cell and trying to break the door down, likely hurting himself in the process. The sturdy cell doors on set were likely built to withstand the intense action during filming.
