🚨 What’s Going On in Wolverhampton Hotels Connaught & Goldthorn ?

On Saturday 30th August, myself and DP Audits called in at the Connaught and Goldthorn Hotels on our way back from the Cannock Roman Way Hotel event. What we found at the Goldthorn was shocking, but let’s start with the Connaught.

We had received information from multiple sources that young male migrants were hanging around the back of this hotel, so we decided to investigate. On the ground floor there was an African wedding taking place, while at the rear the building looked more like a rundown HMO with tired rooms visible from outside. When we asked at reception about a Home Office contract, staff denied any knowledge, and the hotel did appear open to the public. Wolverhampton is part of the City of Sanctuary scheme, and it does feel like this hotel is being used for legal asylum seekers and refugees.

Around a mile away on Penn Road, we moved on to the Goldthorn Hotel, which remains under MITRE security. As it was raining, guards went inside and left a door ajar, which gave myself and DP Audits the chance to take a look:
Inside it was very warm, with free tea and coffee, a juice bar, a breakfast bar, a salad bar, football tables, pool tables, Connect Four, air hockey and a PlayStation 5. To the rear of the building, what used to be offices and function rooms have been converted into bedrooms, while the stock rooms were piled high with men’s toiletries, toilet rolls, tea, coffee, biscuits and cakes.

The most bizarre moment of the day came in the laundry area, where a young lady in her twenties appeared to be caged in a small room. When she noticed the cameras, she shouted that she was underage before trying to leave quickly. We told her that if that were the case, she should not be working in a hotel laundry!!

The Goldthorn also stands directly opposite the Royal Wolverhampton Girls’ School and their dorms, with the Royal Boys’ Grammar School dorms directly behind. The surrounding alleyways, common land and park areas provide plenty of opportunities for misbehaviour by those staying there.
