What is Remembrance Day? : History, Facts and How to Observe Remembrance Day?

Remembrance Day (also known as Poppy Day, Armistice Day or Veterans Day) is a day reserved in countries of the British Commonwealth of Nations, to remember the sacrifices of the members of the armed forces and civilians in times of war, specifically since the First World War.

It is generally commemorated on November 11, the day on which the fighting of the First World War ended, in accordance with the signing of the German armistice. It was established by King George V on November 7, 1919, following the proposal of Edward George and Wellesley Tudor Pole, in order to remember those who died during the First World War.

The Poppy of Remembrance has become a familiar emblem of Remembrance Day for the poem In Flanders Fields.
