Capt. John Hayes (Randolph Scott) is asked to take charge of the Overland stagecoach line. He is immediately put to the test by one of Clay Putnam's men Mace before Mace's men pick a fight with Union soldier, Rod Miller, who has lost an arm, calling him "half a man".

About Westbound (Theatrical Release - April 25, 1959):
A former Union officer, John Hayes (Randolph Scott) now manages a stagecoach company. However, Clay Putnam (Andrew Duggan), a businessman still loyal to the South, is intent on robbing the coaches operated by Hayes, which transport gold to the North from California. Hoping to heist the treasure as a way to revive the Confederacy, Putnam also has a grudge against Hayes, since his wife, Norma (Virginia Mayo), was once involved with the handsome Union soldier.
