China launched its Shenzhou-21 mission on October 31st, sending a new trio of astronauts — including 32-year-old Wu Fei, the country’s youngest spacefarer — to the Tiangong “Heavenly Palace” space station. The Long March-2F rocket lifted off from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Centre, marking the seventh crewed mission since the station’s completion in 2022. Commander Zhang Lu leads the six-month mission, joined by first-timers Zhang Hongzhang and Wu Fei. The crew will conduct experiments alongside four black mice, the first small mammals sent to China’s orbital outpost. The launch underscores Beijing’s rapid advances in human spaceflight amid a growing space race with Washington.
