Violence Erupts During Jerusalem Day Celebrations in Jerusalem

Thousands of Israelis gathered in Jerusalem on Monday to celebrate Jerusalem Day, waving flags and singing while dancing, commemorating Israel’s capture of East Jerusalem in 1967.

But, violence broke out shortly after midday when marchers began harassing the Palestinian shopkeepers. The demonstrators shouted nationalistic slogans and called for violence against Palestinians.

This year’s Flag March again coincided with the war in Gaza and escalating Israeli military operations against Palestinian militants in the West Bank.

Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed to "bring back all our hostages" in a speech marking Jerusalem Day.
