Utha Kankala: Tribute to Odia Asmita ✨

Odisha (then Utkal), on April 1, 1936 was the first state in British India, to be consciously created on linguistic basis. Lt. Poet Sri Godabarisha Mahapatra, who played a major role in writing about contemporary politics;
penned “Utha Kankala”, the song which played a pivotal role in instilling the sense of “Odiātwa”, which was a reminder of Odisha’s glorious past; played a major role in Odisha’s journey of independence.
ଉଠ କଙ୍କାଳ, ଉଠ ଦୁର୍ବଳ,
ଭେଦି ମହାକାଳ, ଛିଡୁ ଶୃଙ୍ଖଳ ପୁଣି ଥରେ ।
We have to rise again; remember and remind our glorious past. And to do this, we have to draw the youth and young people, instil the essence of Odia Asmita in them.
We intend to bring more such forgotten and lost Odia folk songs into the light and attach the youth by catering to their taste, of course keeping the core of Odisha intact, to preserve it for the generations to come.
