US cities push back against FIFA over rising World Cup costs

About this video

According to our partners at FOX 5 New York, New Jersey's local transit system is confirming that they will charge $150 for round-trip train tickets from New York Penn Station to MetLife Stadium during the 2026 FIFA World Cup. This comes as officials unveiled more details surrounding transportation for the tournament this past week. LiveNOW’s Andy Mac is speaking with Sophia Cai, a White House reporter at POLITICO, as a number of cities across the United States begin to speak out against proposed World Cup costs.

New Jersey Gov. Mikie Sherrill has recently criticized FIFA over the costs. She said earlier this week that the organization is not contributing enough toward local transportation. "FIFA is providing $0 for transportation to the World Cup. Zero," Sherrill said. "That leaves New Jersey Transit with a $48 million bill to safely get 40,000 fans to and from every game."
