In this video, we have a look at the straddling checkerboard cipher. It was invented by Matteo Argenti in the 16th century and allowed the encryption of letters to one or two digits. This made it harder to analyze than monoalphabetic substitution ciphers.

Here, we first explain how the cipher works. Then, we have a look at its implementation in CrypTool 2.
