Quantum computing, a new method that uses principles of fundamental physics to solve extremely complex problems, and quantum cryptography, a technique that enables users to communicate more surely than the conventional cryptography method, which were once science fiction and theoretical, are gradually becoming reality and practical.
Quantum cryptography, which makes use of photons and laws of quantum physics unlike the classical cryptography method whose security relies on mathematics, is revolutionizing communication and leading to the evolution of various real-world applications.
Presently, various sectors of human endeavors are using quantum cryptography for real-world applications such as Quantum key distribution, mistrustful quantum cryptography, quantum coin flipping, quantum commitment, bounded- and noisy-quantum-storage model, position-based quantum cryptography, and device-independent quantum cryptography.
Quantum key distribution enables only the production and distribution of a key, not transmitting any message data. The produced key can be used in conjunction with an encryption algorithm to encrypt and, likewise, decrypt a message.
Quantum coin flipping, which could be used by two communicators that do not trust each other, enables the communicators to communicate through secure quantum channel.
