Fallopian tubes are 2 tube like structures present on either side of the uterus. They are thin tubes like a pipe. One end is connected to the uterus and the other end is finger like projection called fimbria engulfing the ovary. The function of fallopian tube is<br /><br />1. The fimbria catures the egg once it is released from the ovary<br />2. The egg travels to the fallopian tube and meets the sperm and in the fallopian tube only the egg and sperm meet. The fertilization occurs.<br />3. The embryo is formed here. The growth of embryo till day 4 to day5 occur here. Then the embryo travels to the uterus to implant in the uterus.<br /><br />Fallopian tube block occurs mostly due to infections:<br /><br />Infections are the commonest to cause the tubal block-<br />1. Tuberculosis<br />2. Chlamydia<br /><br />Tubal block can also occur due<br />1. Previous surgery<br />2. previous ectopic pregnancy and patient is operated for it<br />3. Any fibroid or endometriotic cyst which block the fallopian tube<br /><br />The fallopian tube can be assessed if they are patent or not by<br />1. SSG -sonosalpingography<br />2. HSG- Hysterosalpingography<br />3.
