For the first time in the Commonwealth, the Court declares the right to offer oneself as a candidate for elected office as a right guaranteed under the Constitution. But that right is not absolute as in the case of a failed UNC candidate. The court found the Central bank's policy interfering with that right was in fact proportionate and they were free to ask him to withdraw his candidacy or be disciplined. Here's the story.
