The Congress has unanimously passed a resolution to offer conditional support to the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam for forming a secular government in Tamil Nadu. The conditions include cabinet positions and chairman posts. Five Congress MLAs are ready to back TVK, and a formal letter of support will be released before they meet the TVK leadership in Panayur. The decision was finalised during an urgent Political Affairs Committee meeting convened by the AICC in-charge. The Indian National Congress aims to prevent the BJP from running the state government. Meanwhile, TVK has sent a second letter to the Tamil Nadu Governor, as the party plans a swearing-in ceremony for May 7. The Governor confirmed receiving communication regarding vote percentages but has requested full details of the supporting MLAs before making a decision. TVK requires the support of 12 MLAs and is also seeking backing from the VCK and Left parties. Furthermore, nearly 40 AIADMK MLAs are prepared to support TVK under a new leadership faction.
