True Lies 1994: 4K UHD vs D-Theater & Bootleg 📀

About this video

Comparison of the 4K UHD blu-ray release of James Cameron's True Lies (1994) with the HD 1080p Master used for the D-Theater D-VHS and Spanish Bootleg Blu-ray releases, as well as some streaming services.

For my thoughts and warnings on the James Cameron 4k's see my Comparison Video for Aliens (1986)

From the description of the Aliens (1986) Comparison Video:

Felt compelled, forced even, to go out and do this myself. After so many lies and misinformation spread by so called reviews and other Image comparison videos falsifying the results of both picture qualities (a very big comparison channel also making the blu-ray look inexplicably FAR worse than it does in reality), I felt like I just had to try and be as real as possible about these Cameron "Remasters" as possible. This right here is what it looks like to not be sent discs for free, paid for my review or comparison, and to not have an Amazon affiliate link to these 4ks on which I would receive a commission for, which other reviewers have; all of these elements making other comparisons and reviews that do these and receive these false as they are literally trying to appease those who pay them and send them the discs as well as trying to make sure you buy the discs through their link so that they receive the commission for them. It is unreal. The lack of truth and integrity for reviewers these days is kind of astounding.

Also I will be warning anyone to not support these releases, not just because of the very poor transfers as those are not the big problem that this represents in the long run but because the more of these that sell and the more people ignore the issues then the more of these kinds of releases we will unfortunately see in the future. Already there is talk of rolling this new AI process out onto other Disney and 20th Century Studios Back Catalog 4k releases INSTEAD of doing new 4k scans or an actual remastering process or restoration. We most certainly do not want this to become the future of 4k remasters or restorations OR RELEASES.

On top of all of that the release also has Fake Imitation HDR and was not re-graded - https://www.reddit.com/r/4kbluray/comments/1bg4kcv/reality_of_the_james_cameron_4ks_review/

Shame on James Cameron and shame on those who worked with him on this release and new "transfer".

I hope filmmakers, like David Cronenberg for a The Fly (1986) 4k release, protect their films from this process and do not allow this kind of AI processing to be do to them instead of proper normal 4k scans and restorations. Real scans and restorations and remasters will ALWAYS look better, just look at Arrow Video, Second Sight, Shout Factory, Kino Lorber, etc. THEY know what they are doing. When there is film to scan, we need NO AI to mess with it. If the film is lost and its stuck in SD or on videotape then that is a different matter but 35mm and even 16mm film look FAR better scanned and restored by proper teams than if it is just simply upscaled, DNR'd and sharpened by an AI algorithm, no matter how advanced. There is NO substitution for the Original Film.
