Finnick was one of the most adored heroines in the franchise, so audiences were saddened by his untimely death, which saw him get thrown back into the sewer and brutally killed. After joining the Rebellion, Finnick perished when the Squad came across a pack of lizard mutts in the sewers. In order to prevent the lizards from eating him alive, Katniss had to blow him up.

Finnick pledged to look out for her during the games because Mags had essentially raised him. However, to save Peeta from the deadly fog, she had to give her life.
