This is a shorter update, but probably one of the most important ones so far: OpenTS3 is becoming a real team project.
We now have real human developers joining the project, including Win and Nicolas, and Nicolas has already opened a PR that gets OpenTS3 running on Linux. That does not mean Linux support is suddenly finished, but it does mean the project is expanding beyond my own machine, my own setup, and my own specific brand of chaos.
I also wanted to talk directly about the “AI slop Sims 3” criticism, because I get why people are skeptical. AI has been part of this project, and I’m not pretending otherwise. But the reason I’m using AI is to help with the brutally slow reverse-engineering work: figuring out how The Sims 3 points to its own data, how resources connect, and how to turn that into a modern native x64 runtime that loads real installed Sims 3 assets.
This is not a fake Sims-like replacement.
This is not bundled game files.
This is not a launcher bypass thing.
The goal is still the same: make the actual Sims 3 data work in a modern runtime.
In this update, we also look at progress in the Build/Buy test lab: better performance measurement, real wall and floor swatches, modular stairs, cleaner wall openings, fixed multi-floor window weirdness, and early native-backed pool data coming from Sunset Valley resources.
OpenTS3 is still early. It is still messy. A lot is still unfinished.
But now it is moving from “can this even work?” into “how do we build this properly?”
And now, I’m not trying to do that alone!
