The Second City Chicago: Comedy Legend & Icons 🎭

The Second City isn't just the most famous comedy theater in the world—it's a Chicago institution in Lincoln Park (just north of the Loop) that launched legends like Bill Murray, John Belushi, Harold Ramis, Gilda Radner, Chris Farley, and countless more. Founded in 1959 (when Chicago was the "second city" behind New York—hence the cheeky name), it's been cranking out sharp improv and sketch comedy ever since, with expansions to Toronto and even New York (where the nickname originated!).
One of the happiest years of my life was 2017–2018 in their Comedy Writing program. I joined a writing team that put together a sketch revue running four weeks in Donny's Skybox, and we even got to hit the stage for the grand finale. The place buzzed with potent comedic energy—funny hallways, open vibes, ceiling chairs that felt like pure comedy chaos. Hanging with hilarious people weekly? Magic.
But mainstream comedy's gone "woke," and the only thing funnier than woke comedy is... everything else! 😆 (Bonus: getting yelled at in 2021 for no mask—suffocation kills laughs.)
