First Actor to Play Bane Before Tom Hardy 🎭

Before Tom Hardy played Bane in the Dark Knight Rises, the character’s first screen appearance was in the 1997 Batman & Robin movie.

To play the larger than life character, they found Jeep Swenson - a 6’4” wrestler weighing over 400 lbs. That’s almost double the weight of Tom Hardy’s 5’9” frame.

The makeup crew spent over 2 hours spray painting Jeep green every day. A styling choice that wasn’t well received by DC fans, especially when he was scripted to act like a mindless zombie. Bane was supposed to be Batman's equal in many ways, and even his superior physically.

The almost slapstick and comedic fight sequences in the movie added to the disappointment, for what could have been a great casting.
