Crucial is leaving the consumer memory market. Its parent company, Micron Technology, announced the decision in December 2025 to focus entirely on the more profitable enterprise, data center, and AI segments.

Timeline: Micron will stop selling new Crucial consumer products through retail, e-commerce, and distributors worldwide by the end of its second fiscal quarter, which is February 2026.

Reason: The decision is driven by the explosive demand and high prices for memory chips (like HBM) used in AI infrastructure and data centers, where margins are much higher than in the consumer PC market.

Impact on Consumers: Crucial has been a popular, budget-friendly brand for PC builders and upgraders for nearly 30 years. Its exit is expected to further reduce competition and drive up prices for consumer RAM and SSDs, as other major suppliers like Samsung and SK Hynix are also prioritizing AI-related demand.

Warranties: Micron has confirmed it will continue to honor all warranty and support obligations for Crucial products already sold.
