The final season of Stranger Things was supposed to be the show’s emotional victory lap — instead, it feels like a bloated, exhausting reminder of everything that’s gone wrong with the series.
In this video, I break down why Stranger Things Season 5 (and the show as a whole by the end) collapses under its own weight. From endlessly recycled story beats and a clown car’s worth of characters, to lifeless dialogue where everyone talks the same and urgency that never actually feels urgent, the show spends its final hours gasping for air despite movie-length runtimes.
Yes, there are occasional strong character moments. Yes, the finale is emotionally satisfying. But that’s the problem — those moments do most of the heavy lifting for a season that never earns them. The epilogue delivers the intimacy we fell in love with years ago, but getting there is tedious, repetitive, and structurally broken. It’s a textbook case of having an ending in mind without knowing how to meaningfully get there.
I also dig into the Duffers’ frustrating habit of trying to have it both ways — promising consequences, flirting with bold choices, then backing out at the last second. The characters may have grown up, but by the end, the show never really did.
This isn’t about hating Stranger Things. It’s about how a once-special series became trapped in its own nostalgia loop — recycling its greatest hits instead of evolving — and why its final season feels less like a conclusion and more like creative exhaustion.
If you felt disappointed, drained, or strangely unmoved by the end of Stranger Things, you’re not alone — let’s talk about why. Griffin (@griffschiller) gives you his Stranger Things 5 review, Stranger Things 5 video essay, and Stranger Things 5 explained video breaking down why Stranger Things 5 failed, why Stranger Things 5 sucks, and what the f**k happened to Stranger Things. Enjoy this Stranger Things 5 breakdown.
