The odyssey is one of the two major epic poems attributed to Homer. It was originally composed in the Homeric Greek or the Epic Greek style of poetry which consists mostly of Ionic and Aeolic dialects. In antiquity, Homer's authorship of both The Iliad and The Odyssey was not questioned, but today many scholars believe that the poems evolved through the oral tradition from bard to bard and many authors added to them throughout the ages.
