The Martian movie is great — but it cut or smoothed over some of the best survival details from the book. In Andy Weir’s novel, Mark Watney’s trip across Mars isn’t just a quick montage — it’s a brutal, weeks-long grind where every mile is a fight to stay alive… even if it means sleeping on sealed bags of his own waste to survive the cold.

The movie is still a solid adaptation, but it misses the raw, messy side of what surviving on Mars would actually look like.
