The jungle raised him and the jungle knows him and every vine and river and wolf in it belongs to Mowgli in a way that the man-village never will. Tom Holland plays Mowgli with the barefoot ease of someone who has never needed shoes because the ground was always on his side, lean and quick and entirely at home in a world that would kill most things that wandered into it without an invitation. Bagheera's warning arrives with the weight of something the black panther has been carrying alone for a while — the jungle is no longer safe for the man-cub, and Shere Khan's hatred for man is absolute and ancient and has nothing to do with anything Mowgli personally did. The journey toward the man-village is not safe either. Kaa moves through the canopy in slow deliberate coils, enormously patient, and the hypnotic stillness of a python that wide and that unhurried is its own kind of danger. Colonel Hathi's elephant herd shakes the jungle floor in military formation with the dignified weight of something that does not move for anything. Then Baloo appears — massive and shaggy and entirely unbothered by the existential threat closing in — and the friendship that forms between a feral boy and a sloth bear with no apparent awareness of danger is the warmest thing in a jungle that is rapidly running cold. Shere Khan closes in. Mowgli has to choose. The final frame is amber eyes and an open jaw and a roar that fills everything.

Eight to ten hours on this one. Balancing the warmth of Mowgli and Baloo's friendship against the genuine menace of Shere Khan across one trailer took serious tonal work. Multiple tools, multiple full passes. Every footprint in the jungle earned its place.
