History of the Rose Parade 🌹

Each year, hundreds of thousands of spectators visit Pasadena and millions around the world tune in to watch the annual Tournament of Roses Parade and Rose Bowl Game, but how did this New Year’s tradition start?

Learn the history of the Rose Parade and why 2023’s celebration will be slightly different than most years.

I am very grateful to the Local History Librarian at the Pasadena Public Library for allowing me to use photographs from the Library’s digital collection. As well as the Bentley Historical Library at the University of Michigan for the photographs from the 1902 rout of Stanford, and USC Libraries for their collaboration with the California Historical Society to digitize and make available their photographs.
