The Great Aquatic Movies

https://art.tn/view/2239/en/the_great_aquatic_movies/

Everyone is entitled to a binge watch from time to time. Perhaps you want to avoid boredom on a long flight to your favourite scuba destination, enjoy a film night with friends, or pass the time during an extended surface interval. Whatever the reason, if youβre planning a marathon movie session then why not do it like a diver with some of the best ocean movies of all time. In no particular order, here are 6 binge-worthy ideas to get you started.

Life of Pi
Ang Leeβs Oscar-winning adaption is a survival tale of faith and friendship. It follows teenage boy Pi and a Bengal tiger, who are stranded together on a lifeboat for 227 days. Blending tragedy, philosophy, and stunning visuals, itβs an unmissable, thought-provoking alternative to the usual disaster-themed or scary ocean movies.

Cold Skin
A young man named Friend (David Oakes), arrives to assume the post of a weather observer on the edge of the Antarctic circle, but soon discovers that the man he's been sent to relieve has perished. Though the official explanation seems to be typhus, Friend soon discovers that the previous weather observer was killed by creatures from the sea, and it's only a matter of time before they return.Cold Skin is another Lovecraftian battle between man and nature buoyed by a strong visual style and some killer makeup effects.

The Shallows
Blake Lively stars in this smartly simple take on the shark thriller as a woman trapped not more than a few hundred meters from the shoreline in a rocky outcrop, a hungry shark constantly circling her and waiting for her to try and make it back to land.Whilst still by no means being in any way about realism, The Shallows is a much more down-to-earth interpretation of aquatic horror than a movie like Underwater, but no less slick.

Underwater
Kristen Stewart shines as her own kind of sci-fi action star in this aquatic creature feature that may look and feel like every Alien movie crammed into ninety minutes but still mixes the subgenre's quirks around to create its own modern spin on the high-concept horror B-movie.A team of survivors trapped in a mining facility on the ocean floor have to scramble and salvage what they can to find some kind of understanding as to how they can survive, why their facility has been destroyed.

Crawl
The oversized alligator thriller was one of last year's most surprising gems. While trying to protect her father from a hurricane, a young woman quickly finds herself in a flooded house full of massive alligators. While not featuring any fictitious sea beasts, Crawl easily delivers on the feeling of being hunted by a monster. The entire runtime is a stressful joy to watch, and it features some fantastic underwater sequences that are an instant reminder of how limited movement becomes when humans are submerged.

Aquaman
Following years of waiting for an Aquaman movie, this did everything expected of it β non-stop action and adventure which spans the vast underwater world of the seven seas. The storyline is a rather predictable superhero .The origins of a hero in spite of himself, whose destiny is to unite two opposing worlds, land and sea. This epic story is that of an ordinary man destined to become the King of the Seven Seas: Aquaman.
