Julius Caesar: Rome's Great General and Statesman

Gaius Julius Caesar was a Roman general and statesman. A member of the First Triumvirate, Caesar led the Roman armies in the Gallic Wars before defeating his political rival Pompey in a civil war, and subsequently became dictator from 49 BC until his assassination in 44 BC.

He was the father to the first Roman emperor, Augustus.

The Roman Empire was the post-Republican state of ancient Rome. It is known to be the period and territory ruled by the Romans after Octavian's rise to rule in 27 B.C. Territories in Europe, North Africa, and Western Asia were ruled by Roman emperors.
