About this video

During World War II, the Holocaust extended far beyond Europe. When Nazi Germany and Axis forces occupied Libya in 1942, Jewish communities in North Africa also became targets of persecution and violence.

In Benghazi, units linked to the Afrika Korps took part in a massacre that killed 67 Jewish civilians. Following this, German authorities advised Italian officials on the establishment of concentration camps for Libyan Jews.

Around 3,500 Jews were imprisoned in these camps, where forced labor, starvation, disease, and extreme conditions were widespread. At least 600 people died as a result. These events remain among the least-known chapters of the Holocaust, often overshadowed by events in Europe but no less tragic.
