Fünf Jahre lang hat die Rache den ehemaligen US-Kavalleristen Yellowleg umhergetrieben, jetzt hat er endlich den Mann gefunden, den er suchte: einen Falschspieler, der ertappt wurde und der am nächsten Tag gehängt werden soll. Doch Yellowlegs Rechnung ist älter, viel älter – und er rettet kurzerhand den Mann, der auf dem Schlachtfeld versucht hat, ihn zu berauben und zu töten, und reitet mit ihm nach Gila City. Angeblich wollen die Gefährten, denen sich der skrupellosen Revolverheld Billy angeschlossen hat, die dortige Bank überfallen, doch Yellowleg will in Wahrheit einen weiteren alten Bekannten aufsuchen.
