The postwar period, difficult for the USSR. Summer of 1953. The country is on the eve of major changes, but the news of Lavrentiy Beria’s arrest hasn’t reached all remote corners of the country yet. In a remote village in the Russian North, intelligent Kopalych and self-contained Luzga, two political exiles, scuffle. Of the locals, only Shura, daughter of the mute cook Lydia, makes small talk with Luzga. Meanwhile, about one million criminals, amnestied by the March decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR, are walking around the country. One of these gangs is attacking the village...
