About this video

These are all of Japan’s’ standard issue sidearms over the last century Starting off with the Type 26 Revolver. Introduced in 1893, this was double action, took 6 rounds and fired a unique 9x22mm cartridge. Like the British Webley it was a break open revolver with an automatic ejector. It was used during WW1 and even WW2 although only to supplement the next sidearm, The Type 14 Nambu Pistol. Introduced in 1926, .It was a simplified version of the Nambu Type A and B pistols, was semi auto and fired 8x22mm. These are as iconic as it gets when it comes to WW2 sidearms and were highly sought after by the allied troops to keep as trophies. The Type 94 Nambu was also used throughout WW2 and had a infamous flaw where the external sear allowed for accidental discharge of the weapon when holstered. Although some claim this is just a myth. After losing WW2, (simpsons haha meme), Japan was aided and restructured by the US. Dismantling their military and police force, changing their constitution and outlawing war to settle international disputes. But in 1954 they were allowed to establish the Japanese Self Defence Forces, initially armed with American weapons. This included the Colt M1911. A Trojan horse of sidearms that was semi auto, took 7 rounds and fired 45 ACP. This wasn’t replaced until 1982 when the Minebea P9 was introduced. This was a licenced copy of the SIG Sauer P220 but is only chambered in 9mm.
