Τρεις Εκκλησιές & Παραλία Βοϊδομάτης 🌊

Οι Τρεις Εκκλησιές είναι ένας μικρός παραθαλάσσιος οικισμός που βρίσκεται 64 χλμ νότια του Ηρακλείου, στην καρδιά του άγριου και αφιλόξενου τοπίου των Αστερουσίων. Η τριγύρω περιοχή, μια από τις πιο απομονωμένες της Κρήτης, έχει μερικές πολύ όμορφες παραλίες. Για να έρθετε στις Τρεις Εκκλησιές θα πρέπει να οδηγήσετε σε ασφαλτοστρωμένο δρόμο γεμάτο φουρκέτες περίπου 10 χλμ από το χωριό Παράνυμφοι, νότια του Πύργου Μονοφατσίου.
Ο οικισμός των Τριών Εκκλησιών είναι κτισμένος στην έξοδο του επιβλητικού φαραγγιού του Αμπά με τον καταπληκτικό καταρράκτη ύψους σχεδόν 145μ. Τα τοιχώματα της ευρύτερης περιοχής των Αστερουσίων φιλοξενούν τη μεγαλύτερη αποικία όρνιων στην Ελλάδα αλλά και τη Νότια Ευρώπη, αλλά και σημαντικά αρπακτικά όπως ο γυπαετός (Gypaetus barbatus), ένα από τα σπανιότερα είδη αρπακτικών της Ευρώπης. Το χωριό πήρε τ' όνομά του από τις τρεις βυζαντινές εκκλησίες (Μεταμόρφωση, Άγιος Γεώργιος και Ευαγγελισμός) που υπάρχουν εδώ. Μπροστά υπάρχει μια μεγάλη παραλία με χοντρή άμμο και πεντακάθαρα βαθιά νερά. Η παραλία δεν είναι οργανωμένη, αλλά τα τελευταία χρόνια υπάρχουν μερικά δωμάτια για ενοικίαση, λίγα καφενεία και ταβέρνες.
Δυτικά του οικισμού βρίσκεται άλλη μια μεγάλη υπέροχη παραλία η Παχιά 'Αμμος
Ο Βοϊδομάτης ή Βουϊδόματος 2.5χλμ ανατολικά του οικισμού Τρεις Εκκλησιές στις νότιες απότομες πλαγιές των Αστερουσίων, στο σημείο που εκβάλει το απροσπέλαστο φαράγγι του Μεσοσφήνη. Στην έξοδο του φαραγγιού, σχηματίζεται μια μοναδική


Treis Ekklisies (i.e. three churches) is a secluded seaside village located 64km south of Heraklion, amid the wild and inhospitable landscape of Asterousia Mountains. The surrounding area, one of the most isolated in Crete, is difficult to access, but hosts some of the most amazing beaches in Greece. To get to Treis Ekklisies you have to drive through a snake-like asphalt road with amazing sea views, about 10km long, starting from the village Paranymfi. Half a kilometer after Paranimfi, you can admire the stunning views of the Libyan Sea and Tris Ekklisies from the imposing waterfall of Ambas Gorge (145m high). The village took its name (Three Churches) after the three local Byzantine churches, dedicated to Transfiguration, St. George and Annunciation. In front of the hamlet, there is a long sandy beach with crystal clear deep water. The beach is not very well organized, but there are some rooms for rent, coffee shops and taverns nearby.
The settlement of Treis Ekklisies is built in a bay formed at the exit of the gorge of Ambas. The walls of the surrounding gorges are home to the largest colony of vultures in Greece and Southern Europe, including the bearded vulture (Gypaetus barbatus), one of the rarest species of vulture in Europe. West of the settlement lies another great beach called Pachia Ammos
Voidomatis or Vouidomatos (i.e. ox's eye) is located 2.5km east of the Treis Ekklisies settlement, on the southern slopes of Asterousia Mounts. The impressive technical gorge of Mesosfinis with towering walls and wild cliffs, a very common landscape for Asterousia, exits at Voidomatis. At the exit of the gorge, a stunning beach is formed with sand and blue water. There are two big rocks in the sea. However, the characteristic feature of this place is the awesome huge cave (ox's eye), formed in the east end of the beach. This sea cave is the eye of the ox!
