Syla Swords Debuts with 27 Points in Michigan 🏀

Syla Swords made her collegiate debut and came out swinging.

The highest-rated recruit in Michigan women’s basketball history tallied 27 points and 12 rebounds, and it was against No. 1-ranked South Carolina.

Other than Georgia’s Javyn Nicholson, the last player to put up those kind of numbers against the Game Cocks was Napheesa Collier.

Swords was 9-19 on the night, including two threes in the final minute, as the Wolverines fell 68-62.

Syla was born in France, where her father played pro basketball, but grew up in Canada and was just the youngest basketball player to represent Canada in the Olympics, and was the youngest hooper across all teams in Paris.

Swords played high school ball in Long Island, where Shawn is the coach of the Long Island Nets, and where her junior sister Savvy is also a basketball star.

The 18-year-old Syla was the New York Gatorade Player of the Year averaging 17.6 points as a senior.
