Swalwell enters crowded race to replace Gov. Newsom

Rep. Eric Swalwell has entered the race for California governor, announcing his candidacy on Jimmy Kimmel Live. The East Bay Democrat has served in Congress for about 12 years and previously ran for president in 2020. His campaign website says he will focus on housing and jobs and oppose policies from the Trump administration. Swalwell was recently referred to the Justice Department by a Trump administration official over mortgage-fraud allegations, which he denies. He joins a crowded field vying to replace Gov.
