On November 13, 2011, on a routine traffic stop Richard Bisbee opened fire on a California Highway Patrol Officer on Highway 99 in Elk Grove California. The Officer returned fire, and Bisbee was shot twice and died. The injured Officer was tended to by other Officers and an off-duty nurse who came upon the scene. The Officer was rushed to Kaiser South Hospital, where he was treated for his injuries.
