About this video
This is an absolute tank of a case, heavvy, rigid, and built like it’s trying to survive a war. But after testing 50 iPhone 17 cases, I’ve learned something important: looking tough doesn’t mean your phone is protected. And the SUPCASE UBGrip Pro has one red flag I just can’t ignore.

-so what have we learned so far?
-Cases that look tough, usually aren't
-design wise, this is a neat looking case
-I will give Supcase that
-case finish has lots of different finishes
-hatchings everywhere, grip strips on the edges
-and even a faux aramid fiber finish
-even this frame looks like it's metallic. It's not
-your iPhone sits in the orange frame which is wrapped with TPU
-to secure the two together, you'l need to squish the TPU into the rim of the orange frame
-the odd thing about the frame is that the corner of the frame doesn't fill the space in the TPU bumper
-so during a drop, all that force gets focused into a smaller area
-the front plate has a built in screen protector which is glued to the orange frame
-that's good thing I guess if you break it, just rip it out
-there's a metallic stand build into the case but it doesn't rotate like the previous cases i reviewed
-grip is decent on this case
-TPU edges aren't slick like the Torras's
-that finish definatley helps you get a handle on your iPhone using all the other grip strips and hatchings
-just lots of things for your fingers to anchor to
-going to add 91g to a Pro max sized iphone
-going to bulk it up by over 100%
-you're paying a big physical price for what this case is
-so bigger is better right?
-during corner drops, my iPhone logged 16.8N, that's 65% above average
-yikes
-now the angle of my drops lined up with the angular corners of the case
-as the rotation rate was 46% below average
-this case doesn't travel much when dropped
-the case rung for 21% longer
-and the total force was 16% higher
-so NOT a strong performance for corner drops
-did this case fail the face first drops?
-what do you think?
-initial impact was 32% better than average
-decay rates was terrible, took 32% more time to settle
-so between those two, the average impulse was the average.
-exactly 0% difference
-for the camera lump
-the case has a TPU lip around the camera lump that connects a PC piece over the camera area and the back
-thought this setup was going to do really well
-BUT initial impact was 16% higher
-impulse was 44% worse
-and the total force was 10% higher
-not great
-so with all my criteria combined, this is technically a terrible case in terms of what your iPhone feels during a drop
-bigger is not tougher
-corner of the case, just the TPU is around 2.5mm it's over 3mm if you include the plastic frame
-back is around 3.2mm thick
-now you see why this case is so bulky right?
-when it came to rigidity, this case took 190N to bend 8mm
-that's 500% above average
-not surprising because of the glass, PC frame and PC back
-for Magsafe, pulling accessories off took 8.7N, to push took 10.2
-that's pretty average (4% lower than average)
-case had integrated buttons
-the buttons are very tall and each set feels different
-the sleep button feels pretty natural
-the smaller buttons feel really stiff, really annoying to use
-camera control buttons doens't look like's it covered but it is
-this design feature I really like
-really easy to find the button and it doesn't misfire
-screen access is surprisingly good
-because of the how the protector is attached to the frame, I wasn't able to find any gaps
-biggest downside is the actual glass, it's going to blow our your screen so that fancy new AR coating on the iPhone is nullified
-port is covered and when open, can handle my grirthiest cable
-it's also quite comfortable
