Sean Strickland became the UFC middleweight champion after defeating Israel Adesanya at UFC 293, realizing one of the greatest accomplishments in his life. Sean Strickland had a very hard upbringing with a traumatic childhood, abusive father, and financially unstable household. Strickland found his safe place with MMA training, quickly becoming the king of the cage champion. Sean Strickland defended his title as King of the Cage middleweight champion 4 times before making his UFC debut at UFC 171 against Bubba McDaniel and submitting him. Strickland gathered an impressive resume at the UFC welterweight division but lost to both Santiago Ponzinibbio, Kamaru Usman, and Elizeu Zaleski Dos Santos before returning to middleweight. Sean Strickland's middleweight run was very impressive defeating Jack Marshman, Brendan Allen, Krzystof Jotko, Urijah Hall, and Jack Hermansson before getting knocked out by Future middleweight and lightheavyweight champion Alex Pereira at UFC 276. Then Strickland lost a very controversial split decision to Jared Cannonier. However, Sean Strickland bounced back with a win over both Nassouudine Imavov and Abus Magomedov to earn a title shot to Israel Adesanya at UFC 293, dominantly defeating the middleweight champion to win the title. Unfortunately Strickland lost his UFC middleweight title to Dricus Du Plessis at UFC 297 in a close split decision. Strickland however cemented his position at the top of the division by defeating Paulo Costa at UFC 302.
