Tip 1. Find resource-hungry processes
Use Activity Monitor to check the CPU and Memory tabs. Close any apps that are using too much power, especially if you're not actively using them.
Tip 2. Clean up cache files
Over time, temporary cache files build up and slow your Mac down.

Tip 3. Manage your startup items
Go to System Settings β General β Login Items & Extensions. Turn off apps that should not launch automatically when you start your Mac.
Tip 4. Close browser tabs
Each open tab uses RAM and system resources. Close any you don't need, or use Safari's automatic tab-closing feature in Settings β Tabs.
Tip 5. Reindex Spotlight
Go to System Settings β Spotlight β Search Privacy. Drag your hard drive into the list, then remove it after a few seconds to force Spotlight to reindex.
Tip 6. Update your software
Make sure your macOS and all your apps are up to date. To check your macOS version, click the Apple icon in the top-left corner and select About This Mac.
