Special Forces Leader Warns of Low Recruitment 🚨

Are we meeting the recruiting numbers?

The answer depends on who we ask; but no matter the answer, the reality is that the numbers need to be higher and the quality cannot be lessened.

The US military recruiting shortage continues to challenge the Department of Defense as they explore new recruitment tactics to address ongoing recruiting problems. Modern recruitment strategies must evolve to connect with today's youth, drawing interesting parallels to historical perspectives from 1938. The defense recruitment landscape faces a military shortage that requires innovative solutions, as demonstrated by a compelling Chicago Tribune article comparing generational attitudes across decades.

CSM Dave Waldo and CW5 Felix Mosqueda are part of the command team of 1st Special Forces Command; the headqquarters responsible for manning, training and equipping Green Berets, Civil Affairs and Psychological Operations Forces.

From atop the Normandy Resistance Monument in Normandy, France, CSM Waldo and Chief Mosqueda joined Fran Racioppi to break down what it means to be a Green Beret and how the mission has evolved from the Jedburgh Teams of D-Day to today’s Operational Detachments.

They also shared their priorities and vision for Army Special Forces, how the regiment is adapting in the post Global War on Terror environment, the misconception of the Special Forces mission and how they are tackling the recruiting and manning challenges needed for the next battlefield; whether that be against a peer, near peer or terrorist adversary.
