About this video
In this video I added the beta-lactam antibiotic known as amoxycillin to a sample of bacteria!
Amoxycillin is a broad-spectrum antibiotic - usually given if you have a general infection.
Beta-lactams like amoxycillin interfere with the synthesis of the bacterial cell wall peptidoglycan - basically, they disrupt essential cellular functions that allow the bacteria to grow, spread and survive.
As such, it's not really surprising that I didn't really see less bacterial movement after I added amoxycillin to the bacteria sample -
Interesting - but consistent with the established science of beta-lactams and their antibacterial activity!
