WOMAN HORRIFIED AS HAIRBALL PULLED OUT WITH HER IUD
WITH VID AND PIX
BY SHANNON PICKETT
A woman has gone viral after revealing doctors pulled out her IUD, with a giant hairball attached.
Abbie Elian from San Diego, California, USA, who shared her story online, admitted that when doctors removed it, they were stunned to find it coated in what they called a hairball.
According to the 29-year-old, she’d been suffering through an endless cycle of infections, pain, and fatigue.
Multiple UTIs, yeast infections, sharp pelvic cramps, and even kidney stones piled up before nurses finally suggested her IUD might be the culprit.
She said: “When the doctor took it out, they called it a hairball. I did not touch it.
“We don’t think it’s just hair. We think it’s probably tampon fragments, maybe toilet paper fragments, my hair from my head."
Abbie told how she never touched it herself but recalled one explanation that when things get into the vagina, it can harden around an object.
She admitted she still doesn’t have all the answers, but the discovery left her horrified.
She said she wasn’t the first person to experience this kind of complication, though hers 'might be bigger.'
She believes her IUD strings may have been too long. She compared it to 'TPing a house' - the strings acting like tree branches that catch whatever brushes against them.
Abbie explained that it wasn’t just hair caught on the device, but likely tampon fragments, toilet paper, and strands of hair shed from her own head.
Her partner, who was with her when the device was removed, described the object as looking like 'a gerbil.'
But he reassured her that he never felt put off by it, insisting he was still comfortable being intimate afterwards.
Despite the support, she admitted the ordeal left her mortified. Watching the mass come out of her body was traumatising, and she struggled to feel comfortable with intimacy again.
She said: "This has been a very traumatising experience, and I had a hard time being comfortable with intimacy again.
"My partner saw it coming out of me. I was mortified.
“If I’m just a regular girl, if it can happen to me, it can happen to you.
“If you’re experiencing any sort of problems with your body and you think it might have to do with your IUD, just get it out.
“They kind of hand IUDs out like candy and it’s very concerning.
"I already have plenty of insecurities and issues with my own body. This was just the icing on the cake and made nothing easier.
"I'm determined to make my socials a safe space for women to feel comfortable being vulnerable about their experiences with womanhood and sharing my own to educate and relate. Normalizing sharing what others may keep to themselves, relationships, hairballs, and everything in-between.
"My goal isn't to scare anyone out of these decisions, what my experience was isn't bound to be yours. My goal is to just spread awareness about risks that we aren't even educated in."
ENDS
