Near-Miss at Nice Airport: Nouvelair A320 Overflies EasyJet

A serious runway incident occurred on Sunday evening at Nice Côte d’Azur Airport (NCE) involving a Nouvelair A320 (BJ586) and an easyJet A320 (U24706).

According to reports, easyJet 4706 was lined up for takeoff when the Nouvelair aircraft came in to land on the same runway (04L). Passengers were later told by the easyJet captain that the landing aircraft passed just 3 meters overhead.

The easyJet crew aborted the takeoff and returned to the terminal, while Nouvelair 586 landed safely 12 minutes later.

An airport spokesperson confirmed that an investigation is underway, adding that initial findings suggest pilot error by the Nouvelair crew.

The incident highlights the critical importance of runway safety and air traffic coordination at one of France’s busiest airports.
